5 Reasons to Get Grilling this Fall

Sure, there might be a slight chill in the air. The summer get-togethers will have to wait a while. But, there’s no reason to mourn the grilling season. It’s difficult to replicate the flavour of barbecue that comes from an outdoor grill, so keep the grill going for these 5 reasons:

1. Seasonal fall vegetables.

There are a ton of hearty, sturdy vegetables at the market this time of year. Carrots, turnips, potatoes, squash; their natural sugars are brought out with a bit of charring which completely changes the taste into a delicious fall treat from the grill. Visit our previous post on which vegetables are best for grilling.

2. Bake on the grill.

Yes, you can bake on the grill and it gives these baked goods a unique smokiness that you would never get in an oven.  Think bread, casseroles, cobblers and more!

3. Football. Need we say more?

Between Canadian and American football, there is no shortage of games to watch right now. Watching football without some kind of grilled food is just not right. If you keep your grill warmed up for nothing else this fall, let it be for those days gathered around the TV cheering on your favourite team.

4. The grill slow-cooks comfort food too.

Barbecues are amazing to slow cook larger, tougher cuts of meat. Mmm, brisket! Roasts also work really well. Bonus – you only have to go outside in the chilly weather a few times during the cooking process. This is perfect! You won’t miss any plays during the big football game.

5. Finish with dessert.

Like fall veggies, seasonal fruits make a delicious addition to your fall grilling repertoire.  Add some sugar and cinnamon to apples, pears, and peaches to caramelize. Serve with a scoop of ice cream and you’ve got a gourmet dessert. These fruits pick up the smokiness from the grill as well and will have your guests asking, “What the heck did you do? This is amazing!”
